A Seminar for the NCC Cadets

A seminar was conducted for the NCC Cadets on the 26 th of August 2023 in the AV room. Mr. Shriram Shinde, a trustee of the Indian Herpetological Society and the Pune Snake Park, was the resource person. The seminar’s primary objective was to educate students about the crucial role that snakes play in our ecosystem. During his presentation, Mr. Shinde shared intriguing insights about the significance of snakes in maintaining ecological balance. He emphasised their role in pest and rodent control, which ultimately contributes to crop protection and human well-being. One of the key points of the seminar was dispelling common misconceptions about snakes. A prevalent myth often portrayed in Bollywood movies is the idea that snakes seek revenge. Mr. Shinde made it very clear that snakes don’t have a good memory or the ability to seek revenge. In addition to shedding light on the role of snakes in the ecosystem, Mr. Shinde provided invaluable information on snakebite prevention and first aid for venomous snakebites. The seminar also featured an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to pose questions to Mr. Shinde, further deepening their understanding of snakes and their ecological importance. Dr. Wilson Andrews, representing the school, expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Shinde for his exceptional ability to simplify complex topics and make them engaging for students. The seminar was a great learning experience for NCC cadets. It cleared up misconceptions about snakes and made them understand how important snakes are for the environment.
