Awareness Session For Students

Report on Awareness Session by ILS College Legal Aid Center

On 26th September, the students and professors from the ILS College Legal Aid Center conducted an awareness session for the students of St. Joseph’s Night High School. The session focused on various legal, social, and health-related issues to educate students about safety, awareness, and responsible behavior.

The speakers explained the importance of understanding Good Touch and Bad Touch, the Prevention of Offences under the POSCO Act, and the use of the Child Helpline for protection against abuse. They also spoke about the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlighting the harmful effects of drugs such as cannabis and the legal consequences of their use and possession. Students were informed that only the Central Government has the authority to purchase narcotic substances for medical use, and that illegal possession could lead to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 2 lakh.

The session also covered topics such as domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and their impact on society. The speakers discussed the laws regulating alcohol consumption, the licence system, and the age limit for purchasing alcohol. Information was also provided about rehabilitation centers (Punarvasan Kendras) for recovery from addiction.

Furthermore, the importance of preventing ragging was emphasized. Students were informed that physical or sexual assault during ragging is a punishable offence under Indian Penal Code (IPC), and complaints can be lodged against anyone involved, regardless of age. They were reminded that ragging is a serious misconduct and should never be practiced.

The session was highly informative and beneficial, spreading awareness about legal rights, responsibilities, and the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment in society.
